Here at Birkenhead Powder Coatings, we specialise in a range of methods and services designed to deliver a high quality shot blasting service that ensures that any surface is extensively cleaned and prepared to paint or powder on to.

Shot blasting is a valuable and effective process which can reveal any risk of corrosion and stops problems such as broken weld joints from developing. At Birkenhead Powder Coatings we know that the key to a successful shot blasting procedure is preparation, which is the only way to achieve the long-lasting finish that our customers require.

Our process will leave any item perfectly clean, right down to the bare white metal, which gives you the best possible surface with which to paint or powder. It is used on items up to 6m x 2m x 1.5m in size.

Birkenhead Powder Coatings uses a number of shot blasting media, including chilled iron grit, steel shot, glass bead and aluminium oxide, each suited to a particular purpose which means that we can tailor our process to your needs.

Chilled Iron Grit:

  • Ideal for removing existing coatings and burning off residue
  • Provides a good key for painting and powdering
  • Useful for cleaning welds, removing sand and runners from castings, as well as etching structural steel and components prior to coating

Chilled Iron Grit is available in our hand cabinets for surface treatment to SA 2.5 standards.

Steel Shot:

  • Ideal for both cleaning and peening
  • Shot peening is available in our hand cabinets

Glass Bead:

  • Ideal for peening, texturing or the removal of surface blemishes
  • Glass bead poses no risk of corrosion or magnetisation
  • It does not alter the surface dimensions of the component being cleaned
  • Available in a dedicated hand cabinet
